BILLEY, Edward (Ed) August 30, 1936 - January 3, 2014 Ed passed away peacefully at Kelowna Hospice House on Friday, January 3, 2014. He grew up on a family farm in Clayhurst, then Rolla, BC, and later farmed for many years in Baldonnel, BC, before retiring to Kelowna. He enjoyed a good laugh along with a good dance and will be remembered fondly by many. Ed is survived by Doris, his wife of 55 years, sons Curtis (Joan), Wade (Janet), Kent (Earla), and Brett (Jodi); his brother Ernie (Sharron); sisters Teresa, Marlys (Clifford), and Stella (Howard); as well as eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Ed was predeceased by sister Lucy, brothers Bill, Andy, Steve and John. A celebration of Ed's life will be held at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at 1:00 pm. He is survived by his wife and best friend, Rita; his son, Jay (Trudy); daughter, Patricia Easley; son, Jack (Doie) and their families; sister, May (Herb) Lausman & his pal, Boomer. Jack was born at St. Paul Hospital in Vancouver. He worked for Okanagan Telephone Company and retired in 1985 after 35 years as a network supervisor with B.C. Tel. Predeceased by her beloved husband Ronald in 2009, Dorothy is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law Vic and Vida and Mark and Sue; three granddaughters Jenny, Linda and Mikaela; two step granddaughters Christina Frankel-Barton and Corrinna Meidinger; and sister and brother-in-law Joyce and Bob Capon. SMART, John (Jack) Passed away on January 4, 2014 at the age of 91. John is survived by sons Rick (Jo), Greg (Beverley); daughters Eleanor (Dwayne), Cathie (Danny), Debbie (Mel); grandchildren David (Katherine), Derek (Leah), Janna (Ken), Jered (Lisa), Chad (Jessica), Jeffrey, Corrie (Sky); great grandchildren Jessa, Cheyanne, Nicolas, Kalon, Riley, Trinity and Alexandra; and sister in law Joyce Bruce of Moose Jaw. He is predeceased by his loving wife, Beth Smart. Born and raised in Tuxford, SK, John and Beth were married in 1944. They moved to Kelowna in 1974 where they built their dream home in the Rutland Bench area. John worked for Winters Heating and Plumbing. After retirement he enjoyed square dancing and car trips. He also enjoyed visits from his grandchildren and great grandchildren. The family would like to send a special thank you to the staff at the Idabel Unit of Village of Mill Creek for the care and attention given to John. KUMPF, Barry Joseph Age 83 of Kelowna, BC, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, January 5, 2014 at Hospice House. He fought a long and courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Helen, daughters Cathy and Patti (Lonney), and son Steve (Brenda); grandchildren Jenny, John, Brian, Sara, Jason; and great grandchildren Kristen, Lilly and Jayda. Sadly he is predeceased by his granddaughter, Rianna. Barry was born in Toronto, Ontario and still has many relatives living throughout that area. Barry was a second generation TD Banker, retiring in 1986 after a long and successful career. Barry lived and worked in the North Vancouver/ Vancouver areas for many years prior to relocating to Kelowna. He loved golf and enjoyed countless rounds with his fellow TDers and other golfing buddies over the years. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, January 13, 2014 at 1:00 pm at St. Charles Garnier Catholic Parish, 3645 Benvoulin Road, Kelowna, BC. She is survived by Jim, the love of her life for 60 years, 7 children - Jim (Anne), Nicki, Cherryl (Jeremy), Doug (Andrew), Brian (Cynthia), Patti (Ken) and Ginny (Doug) - 23 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, with 3 more on the way. Dorothy is best remembered for her fond love of family and children, a heart of service and hospitality, and her amazing hand crafting skills. WHITE, ROBERT DUNCAN February 5, 1926 - January 6, 2014 Bert passed away peacefully. Sadly missed by his loving wife of 59 years Sheila, survived by his brother Sid, children Joyce (Eric), Janet (John), Donald (Valerie), grandchildren Gavin, Fraser and Fiona Titley, Caely White, Colin and Aislin Fulton, Sarah Fuson, Chantal White, Joe and Tiffany Gatt. Predeceased by sisters Eleanor (Cyr) and Shirley (Ingram). Long time Summerland resident and dedicated Penticton High School teacher for over 30 years, Bert coached a provincial high school basketball championship team and was also active in baseball and hockey. He loved helping others, family gatherings, playing bridge and long walks with his dogs. He was always kind, principled and hard-working. He will be dearly missed. Memorial service to be held at St. Stephens Anglican Church, Summerland on Saturday Jan. 11, 2014 at 2:00 pm. There will also be a celebration of life on April 26th, 2014. WENDENBURG, EDITH ANNA 1931 - 2014 Edith Anna Wendenburg (nee Wilbrecht) passed away peacefully January 7, 2014 in Penticton. Born February 18, 1931 in Boethkenwalde, West Prussia, she immigrated to Canada in 1956 where she joined husband-to-be, Christian. They married and settled in Penticton that same year. Edith dedicated most of her life to farming and family on Valleyview Road. Christian predeceased her in 2008. She is lovingly remembered by children, Kristina (Klaus), Mark (Jacqueline) and Louise (Shane) all of Penticton. Edith valued time with her three grandchildren, Austin, Terence and Marlise. She is also survived by brothers, Joachim, Udo, Horst and sister, Helga of Germany as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family. Predeceased by her parents and brother, Bernie. The family thanks Moog and Friends Hospice House for the comfort and security they provided and Dr. Burgoyne for his dedicated and compassionate care. JOHNSON, Geoffrey Garneys Oct. 4, 1925 - Dec. 22, 2013 Geoff passed away peacefully at Sutherland Hills Rest Home, Kelowna. Geoff grew up in East Kelowna and he and his father were among the community members who built St. Mary's Anglican Church in 1936. He served in the Royal Canadian Navy in WWII, as a Navy gunner on merchant ships in convoy across the Atlantic. A life-long resident of East Kelowna, Geoff was an orchardist for many years. He served on the boards of directors for the BC Fruit Growers' Association, the Laurel Packing House, St. Mary's Church and the East Kelowna Community Hall. He also operated heavy machinery and worked on construction of the original Vancouver Island Highway, the Hope-Princeton Highway, and many projects around Kelowna. Geoff and Joan Bennett were married in 1953, and had three children - Jan, Pat, and Rob. The family enjoyed spending time during the summers boating, at the beach lot, and cheering on stock car #88. Joan and Geoff enjoyed the outdoors, spending many happy summers travelling and living in their fifth wheel trailer during their retirement. They both delighted in their four granddaughters, who added another joyous family dimension to their lives. Following Joan's death in 2008, Geoff continued living at home until 2012 when he moved to Sutherland Hills, close to Rob's family. He enjoyed watching the quail and other birds that he loved and his days were brightened by daily visits from his good friend and honorary niece, Jennifer Bauer. Geoff was predeceased by his wife Joan and his brother Ted and is survived by his daughter Jan (Ron Webster), his daughter Pat (Ron Cheffins), his son Rob (Elaine), his four granddaughters, Olivia, Hannah, Emma, and Kate, his sisters Joan Clapp and Valerie Reece, his sister-in-law Judy Johnson, and many nieces and nephews. Many thanks to the wonderful staff at Sutherland Hills, who enjoyed Geoff's sense of humour, and made his time there comfortable and happy. At Geoff's request, no funeral or memorial service is being held.

McKEE, Doreen Susan March 24, 1926 - January 2, 2014 Mom passed away peacefully on January 2nd at the Sutherland Hills Rest Home at the age of 87. Predeceased by her loving husband John and son Jack, Doreen is survived by son Bob (Anne) McKee, daughter Deborah (Ron) Dillabough, brothers: Ross (Jeanie) and Carson (Barb) Bell, sister Jean (Bob) Dawes, grandchildren: Carson, Shelda, Shauna and Lacey and numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Mom loved music, especially playing her piano. She had a green thumb and filled her house with plants and flowers. Besides her family, most of all she loved the Toronto Blue Jays. You would know this if you tried to call her when a game was on. Mom will be sadly missed by her family and the many friends she made over the years. Special thanks to the staff of Sutherland Hills for their thoughtful care. At Mom's request there will be no service. HAM, Bruce J. June 24, 1929 - Dec. 14, 2013 Surrounded by his family, Bruce Ham peacefully passed away Dec. 14 at Hospice in Victoria. Born and raised in Rossland, he started working at Cominco in 1944 and retired as Senior Bookbinder in 1989. That year, Bruce and Mary moved to Summerland and later in 2011 to Victoria. Bruce was athletic, enjoying all sports. His passion was hockey as a goaltender. He was an avid skier to the age of 77 and an original member of the Red Mt. Ski Club. In retirement, he enjoyed senior slo-pitch and bocce. Bruce was always an active member of the community, willing to lend a hand wherever needed. Survived by wife, of 58 years, Mary, son Bruce (Carmon), daughters Judy (Larry) and Sharon. Grandchildren Brett, Holly (Bryn), Jennifer, David and brother Michael (Myrna). A Celebration of life will be held in Rossland in July TBA. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society of BC.
