SEMENOFF, JACK: May 6, 1936 - September 16, 2013 of Penticton, passed away peacefully the morning of Monday, September 16, 2013 at the age of 77. Believing in the power of a firm handshake, Jack will be remembered as a genuine, sincere and loyal gentleman. A good storyteller and a great listener, Jack always welcomed engaging conversation to which he contributed tales of his world travels and stories of his upbringing throughout the Kootenays and in Penticton. No matter where in the world he worked and lived - British Columbia, Australia, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and Japan - Jack was accepting and respectful of all people and their traditions. He felt humbled in having been reciprocally accepted and respected and, in turn, never took his relationships for granted. Even with a worldwide list of accomplishments, Jack was most proud of his family. Jack will be greatly missed by his true love and wife of 37 years, Juliana Semenoff; daughter, Tatiana (Ryan) Nahorniak; adoring grandsons, Kai and Jayce; brother, Fred Semenoff; and many cherished cousins, nieces and nephews, aunts and in-laws. The Semenoff family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Dr. Elizabeth Watters for her ever-attentive care over the years, but especially these past months. Thank you also to the nurses of Med South at Penticton General Hospital. And to the nurses, doctors and staff of Moog and Friends Hospice House, thank you just doesn't seem enough. With appreciation, the family requests that donations be made to Moog and Friends Hospice House, 1701 Government Street, Penticton, BC V2A 8J7. Condolences may be directed to the family through providencefuneralhomes.com. Honouring the Indonesian traditions that Jack held close to his heart, a celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in 1370 Church Street, Penticton, BC at 11 am. All that knew him are welcome.

KANE, KATHLEEN (HUDDART, McKIERAHAN) Kathleen's family would like to let all her friends know that she passed away, gently, on September 16 at Moog and Friends Hospice House in Penticton. Kathleen was born 90 years ago in Vancouver, grew up and completed her education through Normal School there, then jumped directly into the deep end by signing on as a teacher in a two-room school in a coastal logging camp, accessible only by boat. There she met and later married Ken, moving eventually to West Vancouver, where son Larry and daughter Allice grew up. Kathleen returned to university in mid-life, acquiring first a Bachelor's degree then a Master's in education and was a teacher/librarian at West Vancouver Secondary school when Ken died, much too young. After coming to terms with the loss of Ken, Kathleen met and later married Hanohano, beloved Gramps to all Kathleen's grandchildren. They settled on Maui, Hanohano's home, and were warmly accepted by his extended Hawaiian family, living there full time until his retirement. Then began a wonderful period alternating half-yearly between Maui and Penticton, with family and friends waiting at each destination. Sadly Kathleen once again had to deal with a huge loss when Hanohano passed away. Shortly after that she decided to make Penticton her full time home. Here she has thrived, enjoying and mutually supporting her close and valued friends, and living close to her Canadian family. Most recently Kathleen has been living at Penticton's Village-by-the-Station and we as a family stand in awe of the level of care and personal attention she received there - thank you guys, you were wonderful. So, from children Larry (Wendie) and Allice (George), from grandchildren Jocelyn (Erryn), Leigh, Kevan (Tess), Corby (Jerica) and Katalina, from greatgrandchildren Kai and Lucien and from the whole of the extended Hawaiian ohana ... all our love, Kathleen, in memory as in life, and congratulations on a life well and fully lived. Kathleen supported many charities and organizations during her life, so she would have appreciated your kindness in donating to a cause close to your heart while you remember her, in lieu of flowers. A private family gathering will take place over Thanksgiving. Condolences may be sent to the family through providencefuneralhomes.com

BAKER, Graham Mervyn Graham Baker of Kelowna, BC, passed away in his home comforted by his loving wife, soulmate and bestfriend, Coralynn, by his side, on the morning of Friday, September 20, 2013. Graham is survived by and in the hearts of son, Vernon (Suzy) Baker, Vancouver, BC, daughter, Melody (Todd) Baker-Erickson, Salt Spring Island, step-daughter, Lisa (Glenn) Moss, Ottawa, Ontario, grandson, Brooks Baker-Erickson and granddaughter Charley Baker-Erickson and grandsons Brendan and Brayden Moss. Survived by siblings residing in England, sister Shirley (Barry) Harvey and sister Marie (Ken) Walker. Tucked away in our subconscious is an idyllic vision. We are traveling by train. We see ourselves on a long trip that spans the continent. Out the windows we drink in the passing scene of cars on nearby highways, of children waving at a crossing, of cattle grazing on a distant hillside, of smoke pouring from a power plant, of row upon row of corn and wheat, of flatlands and valleys, of mountains and rolling hillsides of city skylines and village halls. On a certain day, at a certain hour, we will pull into the station. Once we get there so many wonderful dreams will come true and the pieces of our lives will fit together like a completed puzzle. Sooner or later, we realize there is no station, no one place to arrive at once and for all. The true joy of life is in the trip. The station is only a dream that constantly outdistances us. So, "Relish the moment," it isn't the burden of today that drives men mad, it is the regrets over yesterday and the fear of tomorrow. Regret and fear are twin thieves who rob us of today. Stop pacing the aisles and counting the miles, instead, climb more mountains, eat more ice cream, go barefoot more often, swim more rivers, watch more sunsets, laugh more, cry less. Life must be lived as we go along. The station will come soon enough. At Graham's request there will be no service.
