BLOCK, Erwin William: Passed away peacefully on Friday, December 26, 2014, coincidentally, the same day his wife Verna passed away 25 years earlier. Erv was born on November 27, 1930 in Leroy, SK. He was the 2nd oldest of 5 children born to Sam and Minnie Block. On June 15, 1957 Erv married Verna Finner. They lived in Edmonton while Erv completed his Medical Degree at the University of Alberta. Two daughters (Janine and Sandy) were born to Erv and Verna while residing in Edmonton. Erv was convinced by his colleagues to move to "God's Country" and in the summer of 1964 the family moved to Spirit River, where he joined Dr. Pawlovich and Dr. Laventure in the existing medical practice. Surgical procedures and deliveries were performed at the Holy Cross Hospital; Dr. Block was an anesthesiologist and held clinics in Eaglesham. The winter of 1964, their youngest daughter, Susan was born.  Their family was complete.  Janine began working at the Central Peace Clinic when she was 15 years old and continued working for her Dad until he retired. It wasn't long after moving to Spirit River before Erv became involved in community activities, most notable was being a member of the Kinsmen Club. Erv held various positions with the Spirit River Curling Club and was an avid curler himself. A fond memory of Sandy's was curling with both her parents in many bonspiels throughout the Peace Country. Erv also enjoyed hunting and the unforgettable annual trips made by his colleagues from Edmonton. He took many hunting trips up north and fishing trips to the west coast with his son in-law Ken Melnychuk. His youngest daughter started golfing in the mid-1980s when Erv took up golfing again and it was obvious to all it was a great passion of his. He and Sue golfed many times together throughout the years. The last game they played was in Vernon in 2009, one she'll never forget. He successfully accomplished a "hole-in-one" in Grande Prairie. Aside from curling, hunting, fishing and golfing, Erv enjoyed many years of flying by obtaining his pilot's licence. This allowed him to fly his wife and family back to Saskatchewan to visit relatives. One of Erv's proudest moments was his granddaughter Krystal who is now a pharmacist in Edmonton. Krystal spent a great deal of time with her grandparents. Erv was a dedicated member of Alcoholics Anonymous since December 1978. He lived by the 12-step program faithfully and often quoted the Serenity Prayer. Erv lost his wife Verna to cancer on December 26, 1989.  A few years later he married Marjorie Reiswig. Erv and Marj moved to Grande Prairie in 1994, where Dr. Block continued practicing medicine until his retirement in 2009. Erv spent the remainder of his life in Vernon, BC. Erv was predeceased by his parents Sam and Minnie Block, his brother Arthur Block, his sister Ruth Torwalt, his wife Verna Block and his son in-law Ken Melnychuk. Jan, Sandy and Sue would like to thank the staff at Silver Springs Assisted Living and Gateby Care Facility in Vernon, BC, for the quality care provided to their Dad. They would also like to thank everyone for their generous condolences and sympathies over the last few days. A Celebration of Life date will be announced in the future. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Alberta (9823 116 Ave, Grande Prairie AB, T8V 4B4) or to a charity of one's choice. Condolences may be sent by visiting www.oliversfuneralchapel.com

He was recognized by his peers as an exceptionally gifted dentist. He was a member of the K.E.Murchie Restorative Study Club, the Academy of Operative Dentistry, a Fellow of the American College of Dentists, and Fellow of the International College of Dentists. INGLIS, Claire Louise: It is with great sadness that the family of Claire Louise Inglis announces her passing at the age of 94. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph; son, John; and sisters, Evelyn, Kay and Anne. Her spirit lives on through her 2 remaining children, Hank and Gerry (Erin); 5 grandchildren, Aidan, Taylor (Melissa), Cale (Kirsten), Sierra (Spencer) and Tina; 1 great-grandchild, Bailey; and an extended family of relations and friends from every walk of life. Claire blessed us all with many valuable lessons during her time on earth, among them: go to church and say your rosary; offer a friendly smile and ear to everyone; always dress to impress; only tell a 'white' lie when necessary; never say mean things about anybody (they are just poor souls to pray for); and a rum & coke will fix everything. Claire was a devoted wife, loving mother, and outstanding grandmother who lived every day to the fullest. She lived an impressive life and was incredibly active well into her 90's, getting to see her grandchildren grow up, travelling all around the world on epic adventures, and owning every card table she played at. Claire was famous for her fabulous baking especially her butter-tarts, nanaimo bars, canned peaches & pears, her own homemade vinegar we all called "Claire's Vinegar", and prize winning antipasto. She always had a twinkle in her eye, a tender heart and a warm smile for all. She will be deeply missed. The family wishes to thank all the staff and friends at the Riverbend Retirement home, along with Dr. Dhunnoo and Dr. Sharma for all support and care over the years. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at 3:00 p.m., at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 210 Haddow Close, Edmonton. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the local Catholic Women's League or charity of one's choice. To send condolences, please visit: www.connelly-mckinley.com Connelly-McKinley Ltd.
