LESLIE, PATRICIA JANE (PETRIE) Born January 30th, 1921 in Saskatoon and moved to Vancouver at age 12 with sisters Catherine (Toots) and Berna. Pat's natural talents in style and decor led her to a career in sales in fabrics/ draperies at Spencer's (Eaton's) while driving around town in her prize "Baby Val". With Toots, she travelled to Penticton reconnecting with her soul mate, Roy. They married on August 1,1964 in Vancouver and returned to Penticton to begin life together where she took up golfing (an adept putter from the start) and curling, while continuing to bowl, as a couple. She continued her career at The Bay until her retirement in 1985, pursuing her fondness for entertaining friends and family and to travel to special events. Many welcomed visitors would be regaled with their stories, which formed the tapestry of their lives together. Pat passed gracefully and peacefully on August 24 with family near and in their thoughts. Our sadness for our Aunt, who touched the lives of generations of nieces and nephews, is tempered with the knowledge that she is once again united with her beloved Roy and the circle is complete. Special thanks to nieces Heather and Allison for their devotion to both in these past weeks, as well as to the support and assistance of Dr. David Surkan and Bonnie (Ian) over the years. We also wish to thank Ard and the staff at the White Clinic as well as the staff at their local favourite destinations who brought joy and kindness into their lives in their golden years. These social contacts enriched their lives and we thank you. Celebration of Life Service at Penticton United Church Chapel, 696 Main Street, Saturday October 26th, 2013 at 1:30PM.

PRICE, MILDRED RUTH At the age of 93 passed away on Monday, September 2, 2013, at the Moog & Friends Hospice House in Penticton after a short battle with cancer. Ruth was born May 29, 1920 in Wadena, Saskatchewan, the daughter of Nobel and Minnie Torgerson. She grew up in Fosston, Saskatchewan and graduated high school in Wadena in 1939. After high school, Ruth went to beauty school and subsequently opened a beauty salon in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, with her cousin, Helen. During WWII, Ruth worked at Fleet Aircraft in Ft Erie, Ontario, "doping" the wings on Tiger Moth aircraft. Later she moved to another war effort job at Westinghouse in Hamilton, Ontario, working a lathe turning gun barrels for large size guns. Not long after the end of the war, Ruth met the love of her life, Bill, at a dance in Wetaskiwin, Alberta. After a short courtship, they were married on August 31, 1946 and settled in Edmonton. Ruth subsequently worked as a dental assistant and as a doctor's office receptionist until they started a family. Over the years, the family lived in several towns within Alberta, then to BC, and after a few years back in Alberta, Ruth and Bill finally settled in Penticton. Ruth is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, James Willie "Bill" Price, her three children: Fay Price (Bruce McGee), of Vancouver, BC, Elaine Nuessler (Chris Nuessler) of Summerland, BC and Jim Price (Patti Price) of Mission, BC. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Courtney, Nick & Corey, and one great-grandchild, Kyla. Ruth was predeceased by her brother William "Billy" Torgerson. Family and friends were always a priority for Ruth. Outgoing and gregarious, she took pleasure in meeting people and socializing. Ruth loved good food, was a great cook and enjoyed entertaining. Dancing was a favorite activity of Ruth's, particularly old time dancing and with Bill was active for many years attending dances several times a week at the seniors' centres around Penticton. An avid card player, Ruth especially loved the game of bridge. She also spent many years devoting time to volunteer for various causes including the Girl Guides of Canada as a leader as well as the Stroke Recovery Association of BC (Stroke Club). Always adventurous, Ruth loved to pack up the RV and set out with Bill on many trips from BC to the Maritimes, Alaska, Baja, Mexico with a particular fondness for California and Arizona in the winter. She collected meaningful stories, jokes and quotes. Ruth will be missed. The family wishes to extend special thanks to the wonderful caregivers at Moog and Friends Hospice House who have eased Ruth's journey in her last months. We are forever grateful! SARDINHA, JOE (JOSE) It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father, son and brother in Summerland on August 31, 2013 at the age of 52. He will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by Julie, his wife of 32 years, son Brian (Kristin) of Campbell River, BC and daughter Katie, mother Maria and sister Ilda (Kevin) Kang of Kamloops. Also left to mourn are many nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and nephews who shared a very special relationship with their "Uncle Joe". Joe was predeceased by his father Jack, in May 2011. Joe was born in Silvares, Portugal May 14, 1961 and immigrated to Canada with his family in 1965. He began working in the orchard at an early age and decided during his first year of university that farming rather than science was his calling. He married Julie in 1981 and together they started farming, leasing orchards for 3 years before entering into partnership with his parents in 1984. In 1998 Joe's parents retired and Joe and Julie took over the business. Joe was elected to the executive of the BCFGA in 2001 and became president in 2005. He served in the position for 7 years before stepping down to pursue other passions. The greatest of those passions was simply farming - he was happiest with a picking bag slung over his shoulders while harvesting his crop. Joe also enjoyed fishing, camping and spending time with his family. He was eagerly awaiting the birth of his first grandchild in October and his new role as Grandpa Joe. Evening Prayers will be held Friday, September 13, 2013 at 7:00 pm followed by Mass of Christian Burial, Saturday, September 14, 2013 at 11:00 am from the Church of the Holy Child, 14010 Rosedale Avenue, Summerland, BC. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of BC. Condolences may be directed to the family through www.providencefuneralhomes.com
