KILLICK, WILLIAM HENRY: January 16, 1927 - April 11, 2013 Harry Killick was born in Middlesbrough, England. He and his parents and sister emigrated to Canada after WWII. Harry started his photography career in Penticton before opening his own studio in Summerland and winning honorable mention in a Brussels photo show. He went on to become the Handy Dart driver in Summerland for some years. Motorcycling played a large part in his life, starting riding as a young man in England and into his late 70's. His greatest gift, though, was music. Through the early years in the Summerland town band, various dance bands, and performing up until the end as timpanist with the Penticton Concert Band and singing with the Tune Agers. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Velma; his sister Margaret (Peter); children Joyce, Bill (Debbie) and Pete (Lynn); grandchildren Ryan, Christine (Cam), and Katie; and great grandson Jordan. His wicked sense of humour and quiet love and strength will be greatly missed. A Celebration of Harry's Life will be held on Saturday, April 27th, 2013 at 2:00 PM from Providence's Summerland Chapel, 13205 Rosedale Avenue, Summerland, BC. HEATHCOTE, Joseph Henry December 3, 1933 - April 14, 2013 With sadness, we announce the passing of Joe Heathcote on Sunday, April 14, 2013 at the age of 79 years old. Joe will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Doreen of 59 years, sons Ray (Colleen) and Garry, niece and nephew, Keith and Pat of Liverpool, and all of their beautiful grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister Betty Hebson of Liverpool, England and brother Fred Heathcote of Vancouver. While growing up in Liverpool, England Joe spent his early years working in the Merchant Marine. After his years in the Merchant Marine, Joe, Doreen and Ray immigrated to Winnipeg, Manitoba. After 15 years there, he was transferred to Lethbridge, AB with his employer, Robinson Little. Not long after Joe moved on to a position with the Alberta provincial government. In 1996 Joe and Doreen retired in Kelowna, to be close to their family. Joe was an avid golfer, and loved meeting his Michael Brook golf buddies on an almost daily basis. From the time they moved to Kelowna Joe rarely missed a Rockets game. Joe's family would like to say a special thank you to the "Cottonwoods" Extended Care Home where he spent the last 7 months. They are all very special people and some friendships have been made that will last forever. Also his family doctor Chris Livingston, who has been a tremendous friend and doctor through this tough journey. CASSON, JUNE LELA: born August 8, 1926 in Winkler, MB passed away April 14, 2013 in Moog and Friends Hospice House in Penticton, BC at the age of 86 years. She is survived by her children: Keith, Kim (Chris), Doug (Darlene), Barb (Larry), 4 grandchildren Charm, Kelsea, Justene, Kael and great granddaughter Juliet. She was predeceased by the love of her life, Adam, in 2009. The family would like to thank Dr. C. Harrold and the wonderful supportive staff of Moog and Friends Hospice House, who provided such wonderful assistance. June was a willing volunteer for many years in our community, working hard in the Penticton Soup Kitchen, and Summerland Citizens on Patrol, where she was the "Grease" that kept the organization running smoothly. She took up painting in the last few years and became a very accomplished artist. Memorial services will be held at St. Stephens Anglican Church, 9311 Prairie Valley Road, Summerland, BC on April 18th, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. with The Reverend Rick Paulin officiating, followed by interment in the Rose Garden of Remembrance. OBST, MARGARETE "GRETTA" of Penticton passed away at Penticton Regional Hospital on April 11th, 2013 at the age of 94 years. Gretta was born in Gorlitz Germany June 13, 1918..She will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her long time companion Helmut Schulz. Gretta was predeceased by her husband Max Obst who was killed February 25, 1945 in World War II and her son Roland Obst. She will also be missed by the local German Club. MCINTOSH, DOREEN: passed away at Moog and Friends on Sunday, April 14, 2013 after a brief battle with cancer. She was a devoted and loving wife of 65 years to Alister "Al", mother to Sharon and Linda, mother- in- law to Hannu Tukkimaki and Eric Johnson and grandmother to cherished granddaughter Kaija Tukkimaki. Doreen is also survived by brother Alan "Butch Howard, sisters-in-law Phyllis McIntosh, Leona Howard, Patricia Howard and Elsie Howard and numerous nieces and nephews. She will be missed by many close friends. Doreen was born in Edmonton, AB and moved to Summerland in 1942. She had the distinction of working in 4 packing houses. Doreen was a talented athlete, gardener, bridge player and cook. (Despite her best efforts, the cookie jar was always at least half empty!) She was active in the community, particularly as a member of the Curling Club and a volunteer at Dr. Andrews Pavilion for 23 years. Her cheery smile and twinkling eyes brightened the lives of all she knew and met. Special thanks to Dr. M. LeBel and the staff and volunteers at Moog and Friends. JOHNSON, DOREEN ANNE (DOOLING) July 4, 1930 - April 16, 2013 Doreen passed away peacefully on April 16th in Moog Hospice House in Penticton, BC. Doreen was born July 4, 1930 in Cranbrook, BC, where she lived and completed her schooling. In 1952 she moved to Kamloops where she met and married her husband Marvin in 1955. In 1960 they moved to Kelowna for a year and then to Cranbrook for 26 years. In Cranbrook, she enjoyed many years raising her children and was blessed with many life-long friendships. In 1987 they moved to Penticton where Doreen spent many happy days relaxing in Okanagan sunshine. Doreen and Marvin have five children, daughters Terry and Kristen (Corey Boilard), and three sons, Mark (Shelley), Tom and Patrick (Darrin). The loves of her life were her grandchildren, Lauren and McKenna Boilard and Brendan and Cole Johnson. Doreen is survived by her loving family including brothers Tom Dooling (Lois) of Vernon: Peter Dooling (Debbie) of Naramata: sister in law Joan Dooling of Vernon and many nieces, nephews and good friends, especially her lifelong friends Olive and Rosemary. She was predeceased by her parents, her dear brother Bob, sister-in-law Caroline and nephew Jim. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, April 27 at 1 p.m. in St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 361 Wade Ave. W. in Penticton. CORDELLE, Derrill Gordon It is with profound sadness that the families of Derrill Cordelle, of Kelowna, BC, announce his passing on April 10, 2013 at the age of 92 years. Derrill is predeceased by his son David, his parents George and Minnie Cordelle and his sister Maxine. He will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by his wife Grace. Together they shared an active and happy marriage of 66 years. Derrill was born in Coquitlam, BC and raised in the Lower Mainland. Joining the air force at the age of 18, he served overseas during World War II. Following the war Derrill married Grace and they raised their family in Keremeos, BC. During his working career Derrill owned and operated various super markets in BC and Alberta. He was proud to have shared this career firstly with his father and then secondly with his two sons. Derrill played baseball, basketball and golf. He was an active member of his community, generously contributing to those in need. His quick wit and enthusiasm endeared him to friends whether on the golf course or a social gathering. Derrill is survived by his three children, Ian Cordelle, Drew Cordelle (Lana-Roi Ashton), Margot Sentes (Rick Sentes) and four grandchildren, Adam, Cordelle and Alexandria Rich and Reid Cordelle. A service will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at 11:30 am at St. John the Divine Anglican Church, 607 - 5th Street, Keremeos, BC. PARYNIUK, Pawlo Pawlo Paryniuk passed away peacefully on April 18, 2013 with his family by his side. Left to mourn is his wife Stefania, children Myron (Donna), Nellie (Larry), Bill (MaryLou), Olga (Peter), grandchildren Nicholas, Alexis, Timothy, Andrew, John, Tamara, Peter and great grandchildren Brenna, Allison, Sean, Mackenzie, Hannah, Jeffrey, Jocelyn, Tatyana, Johnny and Alesandria, as well as numerous relatives residing in the Ukraine. He was predeceased by his first wife Sofia and grandson Robbie. Pawlo was born in Dzuriw, Ukraine on July 15, 1922. He left Ukraine in 1942 to work in Germany as a forced-labourer during the Second World War. Pawlo emigrated to Canada from Germany in December, 1948 to work at Starratt Olsen Gold Mines in Red Lake, Ontario. He started work at Campbell Red Lake Gold Mines in 1954 until his retirement in 1987. Pawlo has resided in Kelowna since 1990, where he has enjoyed the outdoors, his fruit trees, puttering in his shed and playing host to visiting family and friends. The family wishes to express their most grateful appreciation to the staff of Kelowna General Hospital, 4th Floor West, for their care, sensitivity and kindness shown to him during his final days. Prayers will be held on Monday, April 22nd at 6:00 pm at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC. Divine Liturgy, in Pawlo's memory, will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 23rd at 10:00 am in the Ukrainian Catholic Parish, 1091 Coronation Avenue with Very Rev. Andriy Werbowy officiating. RASMUSSEN, JAMES ROY "JIM" Born January 28, 1923 in Bowden, Alberta, gone fishing with his brother, Alan on April 19, 2013. Jim will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 35 years, Shirley Rasmussen, eight children; Gordon of Courtney, BC, Gail (Rick) Ledding of N. Vancouver, BC, Glen of Toronto, ON, Patsy (John) Wisener of Penticton, BC, Dan (Sylvia) Hawkins of Nanaimo, BC, Carolyn Hawkins of Penticton, BC, Edward (Lisa) Hawkins of Cheshire, Connecticut, USA, Marie Hawkins of Nanaimo, BC, eleven grandchildren; Melanie, Jeneva, Clint and Ross Ledding, Katherine Wisener, Mackenzie, Tucker, McGrath and Teagan Hawkins, Dane and Carson Hawkins. Jim was a WII Veteran as part of the Airforce RCAF. Jim had multiple careers early on, culminating in his 33 years working at Harmac, Nanaimo, BC as a Superintendent. Rain or shine, Jim could be found wearing his Tilley hat on his lawn tractor or tending his vegetable garden.
