DeHART, MARGARET MARY CLARA (nee CURRY) We are devastated to announce the sudden death of Margie on Mar. 13, 2013, age 71. We have lost a ray of sunshine who lit up the hearts of family, friends and even strangers. Margie died peacefully with her two cherished children at her side. She leaves them, Nancy (Peter) and John (Gayla), her adored grandchildren Kai, Garrett, Chace, Daisy and Aja, sister Mary-Eva, brothers Dan, Bill and Dick, many nieces and nephews, and her best friend Marjorie Davies. Predeceased by her beloved husband Bruce (2003). Margie was born in Belledune, NB, and moved to Halifax at age 16 to train as a nurse. Her sense of adventure took her to work as an R.N. in Montreal, Toronto, Chalk River, Vancouver and finally Penticton, where she settled with Bruce and the kids and worked at the hospital for 27 years until retiring in 1999. Margie was kind, giving and compassionate, always thinking of others. She radiated warmth, joy and fun and made friends and fans wherever she went. Her shining spirit was obvious to all who met her. She was devoted to her family and spent the years since Bruce died travelling often to see her children and grandchildren in Vancouver and Toronto. She had energy to spare, creativity, and a sense of wonder and playfulness that thrilled and entertained her grandchildren, whom she treasured. Margie loved reading, music, travel, listening to CBC Radio, gardening, and sitting on her deck in Naramata enjoying her view of the lake and listening to the birds in the treetops. Margie coped with hard times by focusing on gratitude. This quote was found in her notebook after she died: "Gratitude is like a cleansing healing agent for the soul. It moves us away from what we don't have, to what we do have." Margie's funeral will be held this Saturday, Mar. 16 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anne's Catholic Church, with a short reception to follow.

DANDERFER, CAROLINE KAY Jan 15, 1923 - Mar 3, 2013 Caroline, who was usually called Kay, was born near Vermillion, Alberta and died peacefully at her home in Penticton. She was predeceased by her husband, working partner and soul mate Jake in 1987. They visited Naramata in 1946 following Jake's demobilization from the RCAF and were captivated by the Okanagan. They worked together in the fruit industry, participated actively in many community activities and associations (including the Naramata Curling League) and raised their family in Naramata. Their retirement plans were shattered by Jake's early and untimely death but Kay picked herself up and learned to make a life by herself. She was made of much stronger stuff than most of us had realized. She moved to Sandbridge Place in Penticton a few years after Jake's death and felt she was very fortunate to be living in the "best place on earth". She participated as actively as her health would permit in Sandbridge community functions and made many dear new friends in that community. Damn, we will miss her! Kay is survived by her sons, Ken (Cathy) and Barry (Annie) grandchildren Megan, James (Shauna) and Jacob, brothers Nick, Harry and John and numerous nieces and nephews. DRUMMOND, DOUGLAS HORACE With sadness we announce the passing of Douglas Horace Drummond, who died peacefully on March 5, 2013 while in the Penticton Regional Hospital, struggling to overcome several medical conditions. He was born in Geary, N.B. on Sept. 25, 1921, to Horace and Janet (Grasse) Drummond, and grew up there with his brother Eugene and sisters Helen, Betty, Pauline and Barbara. He later moved to Alberta where he met and married Rose Colling. Eventually they moved to Ollala, B.C. and were there for about 15 years, and then moved to Penticton, B.C., where they lived for the last 24 years, mostly at Tiffany Gardens. Rose preceded him in 2007, and both will be forever remembered for their special 40 years of marriage. Douglas is also preceded by his step son David Colling, his first wife Cora, his brother Eugene and his sister Betty Ball. Doug was everyone's favorite teddy bear. Who didn't love his giant sized hugs, his patience and kindness, his gentle voice and his soft white brush cut? He is survived by his step sons Grant Colling and wife Mary Kathryn of Armstrong, B.C.; Lloyd Colling and wife Janet of Chilliwack, B.C.; and Tod Sloan of Penhold, Alta.; his sisters Helen MacGougan and Pauline McDonald of Fredericton, N.B. and Barbara McLaughlin of Geary, N.B.; and sister in law Rowena Drummond, also of Geary, N.B.; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren by his marriage to Rose as well as many cousins and nephews and nieces. Doug was a mill-wright, a long distance truck driver and a heavy equipment operator. He loved to play his fiddle, which he did for dances mostly when down east, at French Lake, N.B. His favorite hobbies were working with wood and metal and solving word puzzles. Doug was a genius with his hands, for he could fabricate just about anything. He made several sawmills, one of which was a portable sawmill, made mostly from scrap materials. A Memorial Service will be held for Douglas at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, April 2nd at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Anyone wishing to make a donation please do so to the Diabetes Association or any of the various Cancer Funds.
