GEGGIE, DONALD RALPH JOHN October 15, 1930 - August 24, 2014 On a beautiful sunny Okanagan afternoon just about cocktail hour, Don headed off on a new adventure. We are going to miss him, but it was his time to go. He was born in Vancouver and grew up spending summers at Cultus Lake swimming and skiing. Following in his father's footsteps, Don worked for 42 years at the Workers Compensation Board where he met and married Val. They had two daughters, Linda and Lisa. Deciding to head to the Okanagan in 1975, Don and family discovered a "place to stay forever" building their home on Skaha Lake in Penticton (the Geggie's Last Resort!). They lived an active life full of waterskiing, sailing, and camping, and snow skiing in the winters where the little Cabin at Apex was a second home. The "Geggie hospitality" and generosity was renowned and Don enjoyed many friends who came to visit over the years, enjoying the lake and a rum and coke (or two!) on the patio. In retirement Don and Val travelled the world extensively and loved to spend their winters with friends and family in Rincon de Guayabitos. He was always busy and loved to putter. He spent lots of time out on the golf course and his Koi pond was a big hit with the grandkids, who he enjoyed immensely. Yes, Don was a real family man and he and Val, his trusty sidekick through it all, recently, celebrated their 50th anniversary. Don believed strongly in service to community and was very involved with the Lions Club, where he made many lasting friendships. He also volunteered in many activities including running an aid station for many years with the Ironman Triathlon, and serving as a Director of the Penticton Retirement Center. Don, an avid hockey fan, supported the local Penticton Knights/Vees for 30 years. Dad we are going to miss your wine, your one-liners, your systems, and gadgets, and all the things that made you such a big part of our lives. Our family wishes to thank Dr. DeKock, and the incredible palliative care team for their support in helping Dad live out his final days at home with us. Our family has been truly humbled by all of the visitors who have traveled from afar to see him, and the mountain of well wishes we received. It is remarkable to see how Don touched so many lives in important ways over the years. Don's celebration of life will be held at Linden Gardens at 351 Linden Avenue in Kaleden. From 2 to 5 pm on Tuesday, September 2, 2014. Please come and join us and raise a glass to a life well lived. There are so many deserving charities that Don supported, if you wish to make a donation in Don's memory we will leave that up to you. Take care.

SPRINGER, Diana Joan Margaret (nee: Murray) May 21, 1922 - August 17, 2014 Diana died Sunday August 17 - reluctantly with dignity and grace, and surrounded by love. She is free and young again at last. Born in Essex England, Diana came to Canada as a war bride having married RAF Flt Lt Robert (Bob) Springer in 1942 during WWII. After the war, they settled and farmed in Westbank carving out a life off the land. The challenges of these early years capture well the essence of Diana's courage, resiliency and sense of adventure. Thanks to the invaluable friendships that were formed along the way Diana, the city girl found her groove in the country for over 50 years raising five children with her husband. She was an avid and admired gardener, she was part of the Kelowna Little Theatre group, and she started the first recreation program in Westbank organizing swimming lessons for the local families in the summer. It was only to escape the grief of losing their eldest daughter to cancer that brought them to Vancouver Island to be closer to family settling first in Duncan and after Bob's death, in Victoria. The Okanagan would always be home, however, and despite many happy years on the Island, there was always a deep longing for their friends, their youth, the alluring scent of pine trees in the summer and the calm of the majestic lake. Diana loved her life, her family and her many friends. She was smart, funny, strong-willed, insightful, caring and loving. Diana was greatly loved and is dearly missed. Diana was predeceased by her husband in 2010, and her first born Diane in 1983 (Chub (Harold) Down, Greg and Tim). She is survived by her children: Wendy (Jack Bone and stepson Mike Williams); Dick (Sue and grandchildren Jill and Scott (Dina and great grandchild Alina); Jack (Cathy Guidi and grandchildren Joel (Amie) and Shea; Kathi (Bill Valentine and grandchildren Connor, Naomi, Melissa and Mackenzie) and nephews Peter Murray (Jackie) and Joss Murray (Sybil). The family would like to thank Victoria Hospice nurses, doctors and support workers who were tremendously skilled, caring and generous with their time and kindness supporting mom's final journey as well as our grief. A celebration of Diana's life will be held in Westbank in the coming months. In lieu of flowers, please spend meaningful time in a beautiful setting with someone you love, and consider a donation to your local Hospice in the name of Diana Springer.
