DOHERTY, FR. WALTER May 13, 1933 - May 22, 2013 Fr. Walter Doherty was born in Toor, Lattin Co. Tipperary, Ireland to James & Catherine Doherty on May 13, 1933. He was educated by the Christian Brothers in Tipperary and Limerick. He joined the Oblate Fathers in 1953, was ordained a priest in 1959 and then left for the Canadian missions. His early ministry was in the Northern Territories of Hazelton, BC and the Ksan Cultural Centre where he ministered particularly to the First Nations. Fr. Walter ministered in Merritt and Penticton before moving to Osoyoos as Parish Priest at St. Anne's Catholic Church in 1990, where he finally retired in 1997. He loved the town and the people, was an avid golfer and he was supported by many very good friends. Prayers will be recited at 7:00 P.M. Sunday June 2, 2013 at St. Anne's Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. Monday June 3, 2013 at St. Anne's Catholic Church. Interment and committal will follow at the Osoyoos Lakeview Cemetery.
